Submission Guidlines

When submitting a manuscript to IJWC, please consider the following issues as integral to the mission of the journal. Manuscripts should:

* Represent international relevance and highlight all children as members of a global community.
* Describe education and child well-being issues that are holistic in nature and contribute to the   overall well-being of the child.
* Discuss connections to childhood theories and concepts, as well as include recommended practices.
* Include innovative research-to-practice teaching strategies.
* Explore effective methods in early, elementary, and middle school teaching practices.
* Provide relevant examples and author vignettes.
* Describe how culture, ethnicity, and/or social, political, and economic conditions affect children’s learning and development.
* Discuss issues related to culture, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, religion, gender, ability, language, and sexual orientation.
* Be holistic in nature, appealing to a wide international readership, highlighting issues with global implications and promoting intercultural understanding.
* Recognize, as holistic in context, the importance of family and community involvement in education and childcare.

* Reflect the most current knowledge in the related fields, citing recent research findings.
* Include practical implications of the research and describe the benefits for children.
* Write with clear and direct language, using the active voice as much as possible. Articles must be comprehensible to an international audience. Idiomatic use of language specific to a national or cultural context should be clearly explained or avoided to the extent possible.
* In order to enhance clarity and understanding, authors may include visuals (high-resolution photographs, children’s work samples, charts, and graphs).

The readers of the International Journal of the Whole Child represent diverse backgrounds and interests; article styles may vary somewhat. The International Journal of the Whole Child is a refereed and academic journal offering practical applications and appeaings to a wide breadth of readers.  Authors are asked to consider issues of readability. Citations support the discussion. The journal does not seek to publish summaries of theses or dissertations.

It is recommended that prior to submission, you review your article carefully. Often, it helps to have a colleague read your article and, when possible, your article should be professionally edited. Although we do review articles and prepare them for publication, we assume that all manuscripts submitted will arrive in almost print-ready condition.

While the views expressed in IJWC publication may not represent the views of the whole membership, they do adhere to ethical standards. Following the guidelines established in the American Psychological Association’s Publication Manual (7th edition), IJWC seeks to reduce bias in language. As a journal respecting inclusion, we avoid content and language that may be construed as biased toward any one nation, religion, socioeconomic group, race, or gender.

* Manuscripts should be in the English language.
* Reference style should be consistent with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th edition).
* Preferred length is 12-15 pages, 3,600- 4,500 words, double-spaced.
* Articles may be submitted electronically to the senior editor.
* Authors must submit the Copyright Transfer and Photo Release Agreement (download pdf of forms).
* International Journal of the Whole Child is a refereed journal. Unsolicited manuscripts are anonymously reviewed by at least two reviewers. The reviewers will have expertise in the content area of the manuscripts that they review. The final decision rests with the senior editor, who is guided by the reviewers’ comments and such considerations as space, timeliness, and projected plans. The review process takes about four weeks. The senior editor cannot consider proposals or outlines. Send completed manuscripts only.
* Camera-ready diagrams, tables, or figures are acceptable. Photographs are encouraged (prints, black-and-white, or color, with complete captions and credit lines) Digital files should be 300 dpi. Authors are asked to obtain model releases for photographs (photographs and diskettes returned upon publication).
* Publication: accepted manuscripts will be published according to timeliness of subject matter, space availability and projected schedule. All manuscripts are edited to conform to the journal’s editorial standards and space requirements. Prior to publication, authors are furnished with galley proofs.
* Remuneration: Authors receive no remuneration. Articles and illustrations are considered a contribution to the profession.

It is assumed that articles are submitted exclusively to the journal and will not be submitted elsewhere.
